Minister Smotrich against the High Court of Justice: “Having a debate on Nevtresh – a mega attack on Israeli democracy”

by time news

The Chairman of the Religious Zionist Party, Minister Bezalel Smotrich, responded to the High Court’s answer to the petition on the impunity for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Smotrich: “The High Court’s decision not to outright reject the petition to declare the Prime Minister impeachable – the best proof of the necessity of the reform we are leading.”

“The very discussion of thwarting the voter’s decision and the will of the people is a mega-attack on Israeli democracy and another low point reached by the supreme judges,” the minister added.

According to him, his party friend, Minister of Immigration and Absorption Ofir Sofer, also joined, who said: “The High Court proves today more than ever how necessary the reform of the judicial system is.”

The High Court’s decision not to outright reject the unfounded petition to declare the Prime Minister’s impeachment is a disgrace. The attempt of the Supreme Court judges to harm the people’s choice is a serious violation of democracy. We have a responsibility to protect the people’s choice.”
