Sanatan Followers Block Shahbag Intersection in Dhaka

Followers of the Sanatan religion in​ Dhaka‍ blocked the Shahbag intersection on August 9 to protest the burning of homes and attacks on temples. They are demanding the formation ⁤of a minority ministry, a ‍protection‍ commission, stricter‌ laws to prevent attacks, ⁤and ‌10%⁤ of parliamentary‌ seats reserved for⁣ minorities.

The protest began at around 3:30 pm on Friday and was scheduled to continue on Saturday at 3 pm. Traffic in the area was blocked due ⁣to the demonstration, but it was able to flow smoothly as traffic controllers rerouted vehicles.

The protests erupted following widespread violence across the country after the fall of the⁢ Sheikh Hasina government on August ​5. Reports of damage to Hindu homes, institutions, and temples have emerged in various⁣ locations.

Bhakta Sangh Bangladesh president Shanti Ranjan⁤ Mondal expressed concern⁣ over the vandalism of​ Hindu homes, temples, ‌and businesses, calling ​for increased security and the safe return of displaced people.
