BOLZANO. In the pre-holiday celebration in the parish church of Millan, the bishop Ivo Muser he entrusted the missionary mandate to the Comboni father of Val Badia Stefano Trevisan. The priest will leave for South Sudan.
In the parish church of Millan in Bressanone, dedicated to the Ladin missionary St. Joseph Freinademetz, Father Stefano Trevisan, a 37-year-old Combonian from Val Badia, received the missionary mandate after a course of formation and study which, among other things, took him to Ireland for six months. Father Trevisan will be called to carry out his service in South Sudan. Presiding over the celebration in Millan was Bishop Ivo Muser, who handed over to the young Ladin the missionary cross.
On 28 June 2020, Monsignor Muser had ordained Stefano Trevisan a priest in the cathedral of Bressanone. The young man from San Vigilio di Marebbe, former ski instructor, after a trip to Africa in 2009 he decided to take the path of the priesthood and of the mission in the religious community of the Comboni Fathers.
The bishop’s wish to Father Stefano: «May your service in mission be marked by your commitment to justice, peace and the care of the planet Earth as our common home. And that, following the example of St. Daniel Comboni, you can always do everything not only for people but with people, so that they themselves become protagonists of their life “.
In his “farewell” homily to Millan, Father Trevisan quoted two significant texts: from St. Freinademetz he read a passage from the sermon he gave before leaving for China. «The Lord invites me to go away with him – said Freinademetz – from these brothers of ours on the other side of the sea, who stretch out their hand to meet us, praying for help. It is also heavy for me to abandon my beloved parents, so many magnanimous benefactors and friends. But in the end, man is not for this world. He is for something more; not to enjoy life, but to work wherever the Lord calls him. Therefore full of confidence and calm I go where he calls me ».
