Egyptian actor Ahmed Helmy became the first actor from the Arab cinema industry to be immortalized with a wax figure at Madame Tussauds Dubai. The unveiling took place at the museum, located on Bluewaters Island, with the actor attending alongside his wife, actress Mona Zaki.
The creation process for such a figure typically takes between four and seven months to complete.
A Comedic Encounter at the Museum
The visit turned into a viral moment on social media after Zaki shared a video of herself standing between her husband and his wax counterpart. She playfully feigned confusion, unable to distinguish between the two, and captioned the post, Help me
. The couple’s lighthearted interaction, which included Helmy attempting to stand perfectly still to mirror his statue, drew significant engagement from fans who appreciated the playful dynamic.
Zaki also expressed her pride in her husband’s achievement through a message on Instagram: Congratulations, my love, the first Arab actor to have a statue made in a global museum; I am proud of you.
Helmy himself remarked on the experience of meeting his double, describing the feeling as both strange and new to reporters present at the event.
Wax Figure Honors Long-Standing Career in Arab Cinema
The inclusion of Helmy’s wax figure is intended to honor his long-standing career and his contributions to Arab cinema.
Return to the Big Screen
The event in Dubai coincides with Helmy’s return to cinema after a four-year hiatus, following his 2022 film, One Tani. He is set to star in the upcoming movie Hadouta, which is scheduled for release in Egyptian and Arab theaters on November 11. Produced by Ahmed Badawi, the film is a significant project for the actor.
The film, written by Ahmed Abdel Rahman and directed by Mazen Ashraf, also stars Amina Khalil, Maged El Masry, Rahma Ahmed, Khaled El Sawy, Sherine, and Mohamed Abdel Azeem. The plot follows a man who works in the world of bullying but forgets where he hid a kidnapped witness. As part of the promotional campaign, Helmy and Khalil are scheduled to appear at the main stage of Global Village in Dubai on November 8 to discuss the film with the public. This appearance is part of the Global Village’s current season, which hosts many shows and events.
