India: The Union Health Ministry has directed all states to keep medical facilities ready in response to the outbreak of monkey measles.

Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhusan has written to the Health Secretary of all states to keep medical facilities ready in all states in response to the outbreak of monkey measles.

In that letter, he said, “From January 1 to June 22, 3,411 cases of monkey measles have been confirmed by the World Health Organization in 50 countries. 86 percent of the cases were in the European continent and 11 percent were in the United States, with one death.

Passengers arriving from countries listed for monkey measles should be screened at the airport. Teams should be kept ready to check for monkey measles.

People suspected of having monkey measles should be tested for monkey measles. People with symptoms of monkey measles and co-morbidities including ulcerative colitis should be treated immediately. Doing so can prevent casualties.

Any confirmation of monkey measles in any state should immediately inform the Union Ministry of Health. Doctors and nurses should be kept ready with sufficient bed facilities to carry out the treatment of gonorrhea.

He said in the letter that even if other diseases occur in the environment of corona epidemic, all measures should be taken to prevent it.
