Title: Monkey Captured After Escaping in Indianapolis

Subtitle: Authorities successfully capture Momo the monkey after a brief escape from his owner

Indianapolis, IN – Momo the monkey was captured on Thursday afternoon after a dramatic escape from his owner’s residence, causing a stir in the local community. The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) tweeted the news of Momo’s successful capture, putting an end to the public’s concerns over the missing primate.

Initially reported missing in the 500 block of Ironridge Court, located south of East Washington Street and South Mitthoefer Road, the elusive monkey was later spotted in the 10000 block of Gate Drive, approximately a quarter mile from the location where he had originally escaped. Determined residents, aided by the IMPD and staff from the Indianapolis Zoo, were involved in the search for Momo.

While the IMPD had not provided any updates on the situation as of Thursday morning, they referred all inquiries to the Indianapolis Animal Care Services. Meanwhile, the public was reminded to exercise caution and refrain from approaching the animal.

Reports emerged suggesting that Momo may have caused minor injuries, although the IMPD could not confirm if anyone had been bitten. Authorities urged citizens to avoid the vicinity where the situation was being resolved and to notify the Indianapolis Animal Care Services if they spot the monkey.

Momo’s owner, who shared photos of the monkey sitting on a kitchen stove and munching on a Lay’s potato chip, pleaded with the public to call the police or animal control if they encountered Momo, emphasizing the importance of not approaching the animal themselves.

This was not Momo’s first escapade, as his owner revealed a previous incident in July where he had also gone missing. However, the monkey was safely recovered on that occasion. The owner shared images of Momo wearing a Christmas sweater and a video where he was seen carrying a stuffed animal.

Questions have arisen regarding the legality of owning a pet monkey in Indianapolis. According to municipal code, ownership of “wild or dangerous animals” is permitted but must be registered with animal care services. The code also stipulates that a maximum of two dangerous animals can be owned at any given time, with signage regarding the animal(s) required to be posted at the entrance of the premises.
