After a price freeze last year, residents of the Montreal region who want to travel to the island from Laval or Longueuil will have to pay 25 cents more for their ticket starting July 1.

Like every year, the Regional Metropolitan Transport Authority (ARTM) announced on Tuesday the proposed fare changes in the coming months.

So users who want to take the All Modes AB extract will have to pay $4.75 compared to the current $4.50.

This is the same transport ticket that saw a significant increase in its price during the fare reform carried out in July 2022. Initially, the ARTM wanted to charge $5.25 for a single ticket against $3.50 in 2021, but the protest was allowed strong to revise the price down.

The price of a metro or bus ticket in zone A – on the island of Montreal – will remain unchanged at $3.75.

On the other hand, it will be much more expensive to take 10 passes in one payment, varying from $32.50 to $33.25 for zone A.

Monthly subscriptions are also on the rise

Users who are used to paying a monthly subscription to receive transport will not be affected by the price increase either.

Therefore, the price of travel each month in zone A will increase from $97 to $100 on July 1 and from $155 to $160 in zone AB. Those who have to go even further, like Contrecœur, will have to add $6 to their donation which will change from $190 to $196.

In other expected changes, “the special bus tickets linked to the REM will continue to be adjusted, gradually, until they reach, in 2026, the cost of their All Modes AB, All Modes ABC or All Modes equivalents method ABCD deleted.”

In general, transport tickets in Greater Montreal are subject to an average indexation of 3%.

“Public transport faces significant funding challenges and, despite everything, the annual fare update is responsible and aims to protect access to various services for the entire population,” announced Benoît Gendron, director general of the ARTM.

Changes to the river shuttle

Frozen from 2022, the cost of taking the river shuttle will increase by 50 cents from $5.50 to $6 for the trip between Montreal’s Old Port and Boucherville and between the Old Port, Varennes and Pointe-aux-Trembles.
