THE GOLDEN AGE OF FANTASTIC IN SPAIN (1989-2009)
Coordinated by José Miguel Pallarés and Juanma Santiago, the project bears witness to two decades of literary creation in Spanish not ascribed to realism. And it does so through the short narrative that emerged in a fragile publishing landscape, almost newly invented after the tsunami of the 80s that left the genre of publications orphaned. This volume houses in its pages twenty-five stories and short novels belonging to the three branches of the fantastic: science fiction, fantasy and horror. This repertoire of stories is complemented by an extensive introductory text and prefaces to each of the stories. All of this offers a clear image of the literary production with fantastic themes published during those twenty years. All of them, although sharing thematic axes with the past, sought in their narratives, often in an instinctive and increasingly self-conscious manner, their own and original.But above all, these stories transmit passion, they speak of the joy generated by the simple act of creating, with one’s back on success and recognition, because there were none in a literary context where science fiction, fantasy and horror were cursed labels. Despite the limitations of a still analog society, fantasy was a hive of authors of all ages and backgrounds who, beyond any reward, were determined to open doors to the imagination, and do so without shame or asking for forgiveness. therefore.The selected narratives are just the tip of the iceberg, as there were more, many more.
