Table of Contents
A prolonged period of winter weather is set to continue across Lithuania, with widespread snow, strong winds, and frigid temperatures forecast through Monday. Residents are advised to prepare for challenging conditions as a weakening cyclone continues to impact the region.
Weekend Outlook: Widespread Snow and Gale-Force Winds
The meteorological service reports that Saturday will see overcast skies and snowfall across the entire country. Significant drifting snow is expected in many areas, accompanied by a brisk north wind. Wind gusts are predicted to reach 9–14 meters per second inland, increasing to 15–17 meters per second along the coastal regions. Daytime temperatures will struggle to rise above 5–10 degrees Celsius below zero.
“Both night and day will bring widespread snowfall, with light snow prevailing. Drifting snow is possible in some areas,” a senior meteorologist stated. “A north to northwest wind will diminish to a moderate strength, though gusts will remain possible along the coast overnight.”
Nighttime temperatures on Saturday are expected to plummet to 10–15 degrees Celsius below zero, with slightly milder conditions of 6–9 degrees below zero in western areas. Coastal regions will experience even colder temperatures, potentially dropping to 2–4 degrees Celsius below zero during the day.
Gradual Improvement Expected on Monday
Sunday will see the cyclone gradually weaken, but winter conditions will persist. However, a slight improvement is anticipated on Monday, with increasing clear skies and a reduction in precipitation.
The forecast indicates that wind speeds will remain consistent with Sunday’s conditions overnight, but Monday will bring a noticeable calming of the winds. Early morning temperatures on Monday are expected to range from 9–14 degrees Celsius below zero, with some areas potentially reaching 15–18 degrees Celsius below zero.
Monday’s Forecast: A Glimmer of Hope
Monday’s weather will be characterized by cloudy skies with occasional breaks. “There will be only light snowfall in places, mainly in northern and eastern Lithuania,” shared S. Dalinkevičiūtė, offering a more optimistic outlook. “The wind will subside to a light breeze, shifting in direction.”
Daytime temperatures on Monday are forecast to reach 6–11 degrees Celsius below zero.
