More than 400 injured people remain hospitalized in Morocco since the earthquake

More than 400 people are still admitted to hospitals in Morocco for injuries suffered after the earthquake on September 8 in the High Atlas, according to a new balance released by the Moroccan Ministry of Health, which has registered 13,919 injuries since the earthquake.

Of this total, 5,751 were treated in hospitals, mostly for injuries that were not serious. However, the Government estimates that there are 1,077 seriously injured people, while on Monday 435 people were still hospitalized, 61 of them in intensive care units.

The authorities maintain the death toll from the earthquake at around 3,000, which with a magnitude of 6.8 on the Richter scale was felt mainly in the central area of ​​Morocco, including the city of Marrakech.

On Thursday, King Mohamed VI chaired a working meeting at the Royal Palace to activate the emergency program for the relocation of earthquake victims, which consists of both temporary emergency relocation and the granting of emergency aid of up to 30,000 dirhams (more than 2,700 euros) to affected families.

The Prime Minister of Morocco, Aziz Ajanuch, has highlighted that the Government is working for the “good development” of these operations.
