The base of taxpayers with less income declared in the income tax (IRPF) remains above eight million people. Specifically, a total of 8.32 million filers entered less than 12,000 euros a year in 2021, according to data published by the Tax Agency. Of all of them, only 2.2 million obtained income between 6,000 and 12,000 euros.

The figure shows that many of these people would not have even received the minimum wage that year, which amounted to 13,510 euros in 14 payments, although it must be taken into account that the reference of declarants includes contracts that were not full-time, temporary for summer etc In the same way, 1.4 million declarations within that group registered a negative or zero result, which includes the recipients of, for example, the Minimum Vital Income (IMV).

If compared with the data from last year, the figure for those who earn less than 12,000 euros is 8.5% lower than those who registered within this group in 2020, a year marked by the pandemic. This fall occurs in parallel with the increase in the declarants who are part of the highest scales. Specifically, up to 12,178 people presented income that exceeded 601,000 euros per year, 9.6% more than the previous year. The figure represents barely 0.06% of the total income tax filers, but between 2007, at the beginning of the financial crisis, and last year, it has grown by 15% from the 10,580 that existed then.

If the segment of income above 60,000 euros is added to this group, there would be more than a million taxpayers in this group of high incomes, with a growth of 14% compared to 2020. Despite this, the usual income according to the data of the Treasury corresponds to those who declare between 12,000 and 21,000 euros (4.5 million people, 20.5% of the total). Another 4.4 million enter between 30,000 and 60,000 euros (20% of the total). And 3.7 million (16.96%) declared income of between 21,000 and 30,000 euros.
