More women have sex partners, including in Kerala: National Survey- Sex Partners | Survey

New Delhi ∙ In 11 states/union territories of India including Kerala, women have more sexual partners than men, according to a survey. The findings are from the National Family Health Survey conducted on 1.1 lakh women and 1 lakh men. Apart from Kerala, Rajasthan, Haryana, Chandigarh, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Madhya Pradesh, Assam, Lakshadweep, Puducherry and Tamil Nadu have higher average number of sexual partners for women than men.

In Rajasthan, women have an average of 3.1 partners compared to 1.8 for men. Meanwhile, men are more likely to have sex with someone other than their partner or cohabitant. Four percent of men have such sex, while only 0.5 percent of women have sex with non-partners.

The National Family Health Survey-5 was conducted during 2019-21 in 707 districts of the country from 28 states and eight Union Territories. The survey also includes data on social, economic and other background characteristics useful for policy formulation and effective implementation of projects.
