Mr. Ouahbi added that his meeting with Ricardo Lewandowski focused on the vital importance of the Atlantic area for the two countries, an area now threatened by drug trafficking mafias, human trafficking or electronic crimes. .
“The common responsibility of Morocco and Brazil is to preserve this space, which is also an area of economic cooperation between Africa and Latin America,” insisted the Minister of Justice.
And Mr. Ouahbi points out that “Morocco is working in favor of this space – in the same way as that of the Sahel – and the countries of Latin America are carefully following this issue and examining the possibilities of cooperation with this space”.
Welcoming his “fruitful meeting” with his Brazilian counterpart, Mr. Ouahbi added that he agreed with Mr. Lewandowski on an exchange of visits by senior officials to the two countries to learn about the experiences of both sides. other and strengthen cooperation in the preservation of security in the Atlantic Ocean, so that it is an area of commercial exchange and development of its coastal countries both in Latin America – such as Brazil – and in Africa – such as Morocco -.
The Minister of Justice also inquired about the Brazilian experience in the field of justice, the digitalization of this sector, and the fight against human trafficking and drug trafficking carried out in Brazil.
“We also shared our respective thoughts on the regulation of artificial intelligence,” said Mr. Ouahbi.
Referring to Brazil’s economic potential, the Minister of Justice also praised the “excellent relations” uniting Morocco and Brazil which are expected to be further strengthened in the future.
Morocco and Brazil have been linked since 2014 by a judicial cooperation agreement in matters of civil law and civil procedure.
Adopted in August 2023 by the Brazilian Senate, the agreement provides for “mechanisms that guarantee full access to justice and that ensure the effectiveness of judicial decisions, in addition to the promotion of the fundamental rights of individuals, regardless of location where they are.”
It guarantees Brazilians free access to courts in Morocco under the same conditions as Moroccan citizens and national legal entities, in terms of rights and duties. The same principle applies to Moroccans in Brazil.
The agreement also ensures the right of Moroccan and Brazilian citizens to mutual legal assistance when accessing the courts of the other country.
Finally, the agreement aims to create a system for the recognition and enforcement of court decisions relating to civil law, civil procedure, family law, commercial law and labor law.
Mr. Ouhabi’s meeting with his Brazilian counterpart took place in the presence of the Moroccan ambassador in Brasilia, Mr. Nabil Adghoghi.
