Together, the M25 clockwise between junctions 23 and 25 was also temporarily shut down as a precautionary measure.
“M25 is CLOSED anti-clockwise between J25 (Waltham Cross) and J23 (Potters Bar) due to a collision,” National Highways East communicated via X, formerly known as Twitter. The organization initially described the event as a “multi-vehicle collision,” indicating a complex incident requiring significant resources.
Traffic Returns to Normal After Two Hours
Following approximately two hours of intensive work by emergency responders, National Highways East began to reopen lanes. By 2:24 PM, three lanes on the anti-clockwise side had been reopened, excluding the outside lane where the collision occurred. Traffic flow gradually improved, and by 4:24 PM, the earlier collision had been fully cleared. though, residual delays of approximately 10 minutes and two miles of slow-moving traffic remained.

Injury Not as Severe as Initially Feared
Fortunately, initial concerns regarding the severity of injuries proved unfounded. National Highways East later confirmed, based on data received “from the scene,” that the injury sustained was “not as serious as initially feared.” Further details regarding the nature of the injury were not released. Authorities continue to advise all travelers to plan ahead before using the M25.
