The audacity of fraudsters has reached new heights in Bhopal. These cunning criminals are now creating fake social media IDs using the names and photos of administrative officers to cheat people.
Cyber thugs have a knack for adapting their tactics. Previously, they conned people by posing as army officers or fake police officers. Now, they’ve devised a new strategy: creating fraudulent IDs of collectors.
Intelligence suggests that such fake social media IDs have been created in the names of collectors across various districts of the state. The authorities have issued alerts and urged the public to be cautious. Personal information should not be shared under any circumstances.
First Case: Shahdol
In Shahdol district, fraudsters fabricated collector Tarun Bhatnagar’s identity and used it to deceive people. Upon learning of this, the collector promptly advised residents to remain vigilant.
Beware of Fake Numbers
Collector Bhatnagar shared a fraudulent phone number with the public, urging people to remain wary of any messages received from it. Personal and financial information should not be disclosed to anyone claiming to be the collector.
Second Case: Shivpuri
A similar incident occurred in Shivpuri district, where an unknown individual created a fake WhatsApp account in the name of District Collector Ravindra Kumar Chaudhary. People received messages through this fraudulent account. The collector promptly shared the details of the fake account and number on social media.
Additional Information
Reports suggest that someone has created a fake WhatsApp account in the name of the collector using a Sri Lankan country code and number (+94). Experts advise reporting and blocking such fake accounts to WhatsApp directly.
