The declaration of a global health emergency launched by the Director-General of the WHO due to the mpox epidemic (formerly called “monkey pox”, or “monkey pox”) brought back bad memories. A little more than four years ago, on January 30, 2020, the same level of alert announced the Covid-19 pandemic, which will shake the whole world, killing our societies for several months and causing millions death. With mpox, the first cases found in recent days outside the African continent, in Sweden and Pakistan, do not mean that we are living the same catastrophic scenario, with the virus spreading uncontrollably throughout the world.
The small difference that appeared last year certainly caused the epidemic to spread in the Democratic Republic of Congo, causing more than 16,000 cases and more than 500 deaths. But, luckily, mpox virus has nothing to do with Sars-CoV-2…
