France could be doing more to support people with disabilities and mental health challenges-without necessarily spending more money, according to a new report. That’s the central argument from Sébastien Saint-Pasteur, a deputy for Gironde, and Nicole dubré-Chirat, a Renaissance MP for Maine-et-Loire, who spearheaded a commission examining public policies in these areas.

The commission’s findings, the result of ten weeks of work including 47 hearings, round tables with 112 individuals, and visits to approximately twenty facilities-including one in Belgium focused on inclusive schools-point to a system riddled with overlap and inefficiency. The current approach, they argue, is simply too costly without consistently delivering optimal outcomes.
