MSU Student Shot Dead as Suspect Allegedly Holds Tenants Hostage

A 25-year-old Midlands State University student was shot dead at her student boarding house in Senga, Gweru, on October 8, 2026. Police are searching for Godknows Muleya, who allegedly held other tenants hostage, confiscated their mobile phones, and fled the scene in a silver-grey Toyota Wish.

The Fatal Confrontation at KMP Boarding House

Lisedi Nkomo, a fourth-year Psychology student at Midlands State University, was killed on Thursday evening at student accommodation in Senga. The fatal shooting occurred around 5:30 pm following a dispute between Nkomo and Godknows Muleya. Nkomo was a Level 4.1 student living at KMP Boarding House and was found with a gunshot wound to the forehead. She reportedly leaves behind an infant estimated to be between eight and nine months old, who was living with the child’s paternal grandmother.

Other students staying at the property rushed out of their rooms after hearing a gunshot ring out. Investigators later recovered a 6.25mm cartridge from the floor, along with a broken Itel mobile phone and a Samsung Galaxy A05s. Nkomo’s body was found lying face upwards in a pool of blood inside the residence.

Suspect Locks Tenants in Room After Killing Student

Following the gunfire, the suspect allegedly confronted other tenants at the property, making them surrender their mobile phones which were thrown into a toilet chamber before locking them in a room with Nkomo’s body.

“The ZRP is investigating a case of murder in which a fourth-year Psychology student at Midlands State University, Lisedi Nkomo (25), died at a boarding house in Senga, Gweru on 08/10/2026,”

One of the occupants managed to contact the property’s caretaker, Blessing Nkomo, who was away at the time. The caretaker and her husband returned to the boarding house accompanied by police officers. Because the keys were left inside the room, officers had to obtain a crowbar to force the door open and release the trapped students.

The Search for Godknows Muleya

Authorities have launched a manhunt for Muleya, who is described as a director of a Bulawayo-based security company. Police state that he fled the Senga property in a silver-grey Toyota Wish whose registration number remains unestablished.

“Anyone with information which may assist in locating the suspect” should report it at the nearest police station,

The case has been registered at Senga police station under reference ZRP Senga RRB 634817 and is actively being investigated as murder under Section 47 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act, Chapter 9:23.
