Mumbai: A 46-year-old businessman was defrauded of Rs 8.43 lakh by cyber fraudsters by allegedly claiming that the parcel contained drugs. According to the police, the fraudster misled businessman Vijay Nair by posing as a CBI officer and cheated him online. The victim has filed a case against an unknown person at Oshiwara police station.

According to the FIR, Ajay Nair (name changed), resident of Lokhandwala Complex, Andheri, works in supplying industrial goods. Nair told the police that on February 17, he received a call from an unknown number. The caller introduced himself as an employee of a famous courier company. He claimed that they had received a parcel, which was in his name and address. To confirm the parcel, the employee asked him to dial a number and talk to the customer care center.

For some time now, people have been receiving threatening Skype calls from cyber fraudsters about getting drugs in parcels and using the name and address of Aadhaar card to trap people. To avoid this, it is wise to be aware and block the numbers of such fake callers. The officer in police uniform seen in the Skype call or the person making the threat calling himself a Crime Branch or CBI officer are all fake people and swindlers. The only protection is to disconnect their calls and stay away.
