Hadera Municipality Partners with Communityity to Set Up Evacuation Systems for Electronic Waste

The municipality of Hadera is taking steps to address the growing issue of electronic waste in the city by partnering with the social recycling corporation Communityity. Together, they will establish evacuation systems for electronic waste in household collections and set up collection centers throughout the city.

The move comes in response to the law for environmental treatment of electrical and electronic equipment and batteries that was enacted in 2012. The law imposes extended responsibility on manufacturers and importers to recycle waste and establish arrangements for environmental treatment of electrical and electronic equipment, batteries, and accumulators.

While corporate waste has been a focus, the municipality recognizes the need to address household electronic waste, which directly affects the environment and the quality of life of residents.

E-waste includes large electrical appliances like refrigerators, ovens, and air conditioners, as well as small appliances, communication devices, electronic tools, and various other items like batteries and light bulbs.

Nir Ben Haim, the acting mayor of the municipality, emphasized the importance of the partnership with Communityity, stating, “In the very essence of this cooperation, we meet two fundamental values. One is sustainability, and the understanding that recycling electronic waste, as well as waste in general, is an essential and central need that the local authority must take care of. The second is the value that Ecommunity brings, which is the social value that integrates residents and residents with disabilities to work in this field. There are two lines of profit here, both business and social.”

Residents can request the pickup of non-functioning electrical products and devices by calling *8196 or using an online form through the corporation’s website. Additionally, 14 collection stations have been set up throughout the city to receive electronic waste such as batteries and small products.

The municipality encourages residents to take advantage of these resources and dispose of electronic waste responsibly. Detailed information about the collection stations can be found on the Hadera Municipality website.
