Communities across distinct regions are launching open-air film screenings this season, offering residents free outdoor movie nights in urban squares, historic river ports, and cultural hubs, complete with family features, local short films, and accessibility accommodations.
Open-Air Screenings and Cultural Programming in Murmansk Region
The Murmansk region is preparing to support the all-Russian Night of Cinema cultural initiative across August 28 and 29, according to the regional Ministry of Culture. Cultural institutions throughout the area have scheduled thematic events, highlighted by an outdoor pop-up cinema set up in the Central Square near Five Corners Square in Murmansk.
Organizers have assembled a free public program spanning multiple venues. The outdoor site near the Kirov Palace of Culture will operate on August 28 from 15:00 to 21:00 and August 29 from 12:00 to 21:00, featuring animated films, regional shorts, and the locally filmed feature Philately.
Featured headliners for this year’s regional screenings include the family sequel Cheburashka 2, the fairy-tale adaptation Buratino, the Great Patriotic War drama Angels of Ladoga, and the military film Malysh.
Extended Activities and Regional Outreach
Beyond the primary outdoor screens, the regional scientific library has scheduled exhibitions, virtual quizzes, and a vinyl-record collage workshop. The SOPKI.21A center will host screenings of major new releases alongside retrospective cinema, while a specialized library for the blind provides inclusive sessions featuring audio descriptions and subtitles.
The cultural program extends outside the regional capital as well. Communities such as Olenya Guba will hold a Frame by Frame game, Snezhnogorsk is organizing a quiz, and Severomorsk has planned an interactive event called Cheburashka Expert.
River Port Cinema Launch in Tyumen
Meanwhile, residents in Tyumen are gaining a new weekly outdoor cinema venue located near the Albrecht portal crane in the River Port district. Free screenings are scheduled for every Friday evening at 20:30, utilizing an open-air space situated beside a historic post office carriage.

Brusnika explained that while long-term plans and redevelopment projects for the vintage rail car are still under consideration, the temporary cinema was established to extend the season of activities on this space rather than leave the area idle.
The Tyumen screening series opens with Paddington, following the journey of a young bear arriving in an unfamiliar city. Organizers advise attendees to bring blankets or folding chairs due to limited seating, noting that outdoor screenings will be cancelled in the event of rain.
