Kathleen Hanna and her band Bikini Kill are among the most important representatives of the riot grrrls, who reacted to the dominance of men in the music scene in the early 90s with punk music and angry lyrics. With “Rebel Girl” Bikini Kill wrote the anthem of this feminist subcultural movement, inspired with wild live performances and shaped musicians like Pussy Riot. After two albums and a few EPs, the Americans disbanded their group in 1997, and Hanna founded the electropunk band Le Tigre. This week Bikini Kill were on tour in Germany for the first time in 25 years. (juls)
