The intervening years were spent honing his skills in domestic cricket, a period of “hard grind” that ultimately proved crucial to his comeback. he credits the unwavering support of his family, friends, coaches, and support staff for helping him navigate this challenging period. He also highlighted the impact of working with sports scientist Cheryl Calder, which contributed to enhancing his overall performance.

Muthusamy’s form began to turn around with a prosperous tour of Pakistan in 2025. He demonstrated his capabilities with both bat and ball, claiming 11 wickets in the first Test and contributing a valuable 89 not out in the second. This performance seemingly unlocked his potential on the subcontinent, paving the way for his recent success against India.
“My journey’s been unique,” Muthusamy reflected. “Got a taste of international cricket in 2019 in India, debuted here, went back into the wilderness a little bit.Like you say, cricket is such a journey that you just try to take it one day at a time. You try not to think too far ahead.”

Muthusamy’s ancestry traces back to Nagapattinam in Tamil Nadu, India, even tho he has yet to visit his ancestral homeland. while acknowledging his Indian heritage, he emphasized that his connection to the region is several generations removed. His mother and aunts have previously visited family in tamil Nadu.
Defining his role within the team, Muthusamy identifies as an all-rounder, committed to contributing in any capacity necessary. “I see myself as an all-rounder, so I try to contribute where I can towards the team’s cause, whether it be bowling spin on the field or with the bat. I just try to add as much value as I can.”
