Myanmar’s national badminton teams were eliminated from the team events at the XXXIII Thailand SEA Games on December 7, 2025, at Thammasat University. Despite a strong showing from individual players, both the men’s and women’s squads fell short of advancing to the semi-final rounds.
Women’s Team Competition Results
The women’s team event featured a smaller field of only seven participating teams. This structure granted host nation Thailand a direct bye into the semi-finals, bypassing the quarter-final stage. In the quarter-finals, Indonesia proved too strong for Myanmar, securing a decisive 3-0 victory. Elsewhere, Singapore defeated the Philippines by the same margin, and Malaysia overcame Vietnam with a score of 3-1.
Thailand will now face Singapore in the semi-finals, while Indonesia will compete against Malaysia for a place in the final.
During their match against Indonesia, Myanmar’s women’s team fielded competitors in two singles matches and one doubles match. Thet Htar Thuzar engaged in a hard-fought singles match, ultimately losing 2-1 to Putri of Indonesia. Eaint Chit Phoo also faced defeat in singles, losing in straight games to Mariska of Indonesia. The doubles pairing of Su Latt and Khine Thinza were similarly unsuccessful, falling in straight games.
Men’s Team Competition Results
The men’s team event also saw a limited number of participants, with seven teams competing. Like the women’s event, Indonesia received a bye directly into the semi-finals. In the quarter-final matches, Thailand dominated Myanmar with a 3-0 sweep. Singapore secured a 3-0 win against Laos, and Malaysia achieved a straight-matches victory over the Philippines.
Looking Ahead to Individual Events
Despite the team setbacks, Myanmar’s badminton players will continue to compete at the XXXIII Thailand SEA Games in the individual men’s and women’s singles and doubles events. The focus now shifts to individual performances as athletes strive for personal accolades and national pride.
