Myasnikov called the required level of “herd immunity” against COVID-19

by time news

TV presenter Alexander Myasnikov spoke about the “controversy in social networks” about the required level of herd immunity to end the coronavirus pandemic. In his telegram channel, he stated that until now “we do not know the exact level of antibodies (for each person. – “MK”), which can be considered protective. “Dr. Myasnikov noted that people who have antibodies to COVID-19 are still being identified, but they still get sick.

“And, for example, vaccinated without antibodies – no!” He added.

As for the required percentage of vaccinated, the ideal option, in his opinion, is 100% vaccination of the population. However, such an indicator is unattainable, added Myasnikov. According to the TV presenter, there is still no data on the minimum required level of vaccination in society.

“According to past experience, we say – at least 70% of the herd,” writes Myasnikov, explaining the use of such terminology, “in English, this is precisely“ herd immunity ”.

However, he added, if by collective immunity we mean a situation in which the coronavirus has completely disappeared, then this is fantastic. According to Myasnikov, “the new coronavirus has come forever” – and it “joined the ranks of human coronaviruses” – there were four types of them before, now there are five. Thus, summarizes Myasnikov, herd immunity from COVID-19 “implies displacing it into the category of conventional acute respiratory infections.” He cited the example of the “Spanish flu” – the H1N1 flu, which “once killed more than 100 million people, but today it is a routine infection.” Summing up, Myasnikov called vaccination a way out of the current situation.
