Nail Mat Deployed, Pursuit Ends in Eidsvolltunnel
The pursuit continued until the vehicle entered the Eidsvolltunnel, where police strategically deployed a nail mat. The driver continued at a high rate of speed, ultimately driving over the device, which brought the vehicle to a halt. A senior official stated that the deployment of the nail mat was a necessary measure to ensure public safety.
Excessive Speeding and Multiple Charges Filed
A patrol from the Emergency Police recorded the vehicle’s speed at 179 kilometers per hour in a zone with a posted limit of 110 kilometers per hour – a significant and dangerous breach of traffic regulations. The driver now faces charges including failing to comply with a police check, operating a vehicle without a valid driver’s license, and speeding.
“The man is reported for not stopping for a check, driving without a valid driver’s license and speeding,” said operations manager Atle Vesttorp of the East police district.
The incident underscores the dangers of failing to comply with law enforcement and the potential consequences of reckless driving. Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the driver’s initial refusal to stop and the subsequent pursuit.
