During a press conference held in Bogotá, Nairo Quintana addressed various aspects related to current Colombian sports.

The rider from Boyacá confirmed his participation in the 2024 Giro d’Italia and took the opportunity to comment on the national sports panorama.

Quintana expressed his concern about the lack of leadership in the sports field, pointing out that the recent adverse results in various disciplines are a reflection of this lack. He highlighted the importance of having leaders who can enhance the talent of Colombian athletes and provide them with the necessary support to achieve their goals.

«We have to continue working for our athletes, continue redirecting our sport… Our wish is that the government does well, that the minister does wellthat it lasts a long time, and that we can redirect the ship so that they guarantee us athletes that dream guide that we have as Colombians,” Quintana stated.

The cyclist also made reference to the lack of use of resources in the Ministry of Sports: “Throughout my career I have fought for many things, from the Ministry of Sports, because there was no big world-class event here in Colombia and because there is no team.”

Likewise, Quintana urged President Gustavo Petro and Minister Luz Cristina López to provide greater support to Colombian athletes, especially at this crucial moment: «We have been losing places in the Olympic cyclepeak, we have lost many competitions and we want to get back to it, so our wish is that the government and the minister do well.
