For a healthy person, gluten seems to be harmless, but the debate continues on this score writes Harper’s Bazaar. The publication indicates that a number of experts are of the opinion that even people who do not have contraindications will not benefit from gluten, therefore they recommend avoiding products with it. However, other experts believe that gluten has no effect on the body of a healthy person at all.

According to recent research, gluten can still affect all people – namely, increase the level of anxiety. For example, participants in one recent experiment ate foods with gluten, which are characterized by a high glycemic index – that is, causing a sharp change in blood sugar levels. A jump in sugar is always followed by a sharp drop, which, in turn, causes anxiety.

That is, by giving up wheat buns and pasta, you can reduce the risk of anxiety. However, it is not yet possible to say for sure whether gluten itself or sugar is to blame for these manifestations, concludes Bazaar.
