Former US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi called on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to resign over his failure to end the war against the Hamas terrorist group.
During an interview with Irish broadcaster RTE, Pelosi called Netanyahu’s policies and practices “horrible” and stressed that his departure from office would be the right thing to do. She also expressed alarm at the high death toll from Hamas attacks in the Gaza Strip and said she supported Israel’s right to protection.
Pelosi condemned Netanyahu for continuing the war in Gaza and called on him to show restraint in his persecution of Hamas, as well as to allow humanitarian aid for the residents of the strip. In addition, she called Netanyahu “an obstacle to the two-state solution” for Israel and the PA.
Pelosi’s policy position mirrors that of US President Joe Biden, who supports defending Israel but calls for restraint in action against Hamas and ensuring humanitarian aid for Gaza.
In addition, Pelosi expressed concern about attempts by some European countries to recognize a “Palestinian state” after the end of the war, expressing doubts about which government these countries would recognize – Hamas or Abbas’s rule.
