Alaska Nanooks Earn CSCAA Scholar All-American Team Honors for Spring 2025
The Alaska Nanooks swimming team has been recognized for its academic excellence, being named a 2025 College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Scholar All-American Team. This prestigious honor acknowledges the team’s commitment to success both in and out of the pool.
The CSCAA announced the selection of 763 teams representing 432 institutions as Scholar All-America Teams for the Spring 2025 semester. A total of 18,459 student-athletes were honored for their outstanding academic achievements, with teams required to maintain a grade point average (GPA) of 3.00 or higher to qualify.
“It is great to see the team being recognized for the work they put in the water and the classroom,” said head coach Ksenia Thunder. “We are going to continue to strive to be great in everything we do. We are very proud of our swimmers and love celebrating them for their achievements.”
Beyond the team accolade, five Nanooks swimmers – Charlotte Fletcher-Stables, Dorka Dancsok, Janci Pangburn, Jordan O’Connor, and Tori Shoemaker – were individually named Second Team Scholar All-Americans. Qualification for First-Team Scholar All-America requires a GPA of 3.5 or higher and participation in the national championship. Second-Team selections also need a 3.5 GPA or higher, alongside achieving a “B” time standard for the national championship or qualifying for a diving zone meet. A remarkable 2,700 swimmers and divers were recognized on the CSCAA Scholar All-American Team for the 2024-25 season.
The Nanooks’ success extends beyond academics. The team achieved its best finish at the Pacific Coast Swimming and Diving Conference (PCSC) Championships since the 2013-14 season, securing fifth place with 909.5 points over the four-day competition held last February. Throughout the season, Alaska swimmers recorded nine NCAA B Standard times in their pursuit of NCAA Championships qualification.
Janci Pangburn led the charge with two B Cuts: a 51.51 in the 100-yard freestyle at the Logger Invitational and a 23.74 in the 50-yard freestyle at the PCSC Championships. Tori Shoemaker achieved B Cuts in the 1000-yard freestyle (10:24.07) and 1650-yard freestyle (17:17.73), both at the PCSC Championships. Charlotte Fletcher-Stables earned B Cuts in the 100-yard backstroke (55.28) and 200-yard backstroke (2:02.63), while Jordan O’Connor added a 55.79 in the 100-yard backstroke. Dorka Dancsok completed the list with a 1:04.02 in the 100-yard breaststroke and a 4:25.99 in the 400-yard IM, both achieved at the PCSC Championships.
The Nanooks’ consistent performance and dedication to both athletic and academic pursuits demonstrate a well-rounded program poised for continued success.
