Neubrandenburg, December 27, 2025
A slick coating of freezing water transformed roads across the Neubrandenburg police headquarters’ jurisdiction into treacherous surfaces on the evening of December 26th, 2025, resulting in a surge of weather-related traffic accidents. By 4:00 a.m. on December 27th, authorities had logged a total of 15 such incidents, with the Mecklenburg Lake District bearing the brunt of the hazardous conditions. The police are urging drivers to exercise extreme caution.
While most of the accidents resulted in property damage totaling approximately 56,000 euros, two incidents led to minor injuries. Around 10:15 p.m., a 29-year-old driver lost control of a VW in Neustrelitz, veering off the icy road and sustaining slight injuries. Later, on the B198 near Klein Trebbow, a 26-year-old VW driver also skidded off the road due to excessive speed for the conditions, requiring hospital treatment.
Authorities are emphasizing the importance of adjusting driving habits to match the challenging winter weather. Drivers are advised to reduce speed and increase their attention to avoid similar incidents. The icy conditions are expected to persist, requiring continued vigilance from all road users.
