A tribal singer from Kerala has been awarded the National Award for Best Female Singer. Nanjamma got this award for singing in the Malayalam movie ‘Ayyappanum Koshiyum’.
Lata Mangeshkar, KS Chitra, S. Leading singers like Janaki have won this award. Now 62-year-old Nanjamma is also included in this list.
Kerala Chief Minister and many others congratulated Thiruvathy Nanjamma.
Nanjamma, who lives in a small hill village in Attapadi region, has said that she dedicates the award to her Irular community.
