The 15th National Games tennis singles competition commenced on november 13, with several prominent players securing their place in the second round.
The tennis singles competition of the 15th National Games officially began on November 13, witnessing strong performances from seeded players like Zhang Zhizhen, Buyunchaoket, Yuan Yue, and Zhu Lin. A total of 64 players are competing in both the men’s and women’s singles events.
Men’s Singles: Established Stars Dominate
The top eight seeds in men’s singles-Buyunchaoket, Huang Zelin, Wu Yibing, Zhou Yi, Shang juncheng, Sun Fajing, Cui Jie, and Zhang Zhizhen-all advanced to the next stage of the tournament.Zhang Zhizhen, representing Shanghai, is overcoming Guizhou’s Zhao Zhao 6-0, 6-2), and Cui Jie (defeating Hebei’s Yu Bingyu 6-2, 6-1).
Women’s Singles: Early Upsets and Withdrawals
In the women’s singles draw, the top eight seeds – Wang xinyu, yuan Yue, Zhu Lin, Guo Hanyu, Wang Xiyu, Gao Xinyu, Ma Yexin, and Wang Yafan – began their campaigns. However, the competition saw an early withdrawal as Hubei’s Zheng Qinwen announced her absence due to an ongoing injury, impacting her participation in both singles and doubles events.
Second seed Yuan Yue of Guangdong delivered a dominant performance, defeating Shandong’s Zhang Jiale 6-0, 6-0. Similarly, third seed Zhu Lin from Anhui secured her advancement with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Guangdong’s Li Yuyao. Despite a valiant effort, Sichuan’s Guo Hanyu fell to Zhejiang’s Qu Yihan in a closely contested three-set match, ultimately losing 7-6(4), 2-6, 6-7(5). Wang Xiyu of Tianjin and gao Xinyu also secured wins, defeating Hong Kong’s Zhang Weihuan (6-2, 6-1) and Wu Manying (6-3, 6-0) respectively. Notably, two-time tournament champion Wang Qiang of Tianjin achieved a decisive victory over Guizhou’s Guo Meiqi with consecutive 6-0 sets.
Doubles competition Begins
Alongside the singles matches, the first round of the doubles competition has commenced, with the Guangdong duo of Zeng Yaojie and Yang Zijiang, the top seeds in men’s doubles, leading the charge.
