Vienna (PK) – Teh former chairman of the federal party ÖVP, Josef Taus, died at the age of 91. The business lawyer was a member of the national Council for 16 years, between 4 November 1975 and 3 December 1991. He led the federal ÖVP party from 1975 to 1979. Between April 1966 and March 1967 he was Secretary of State in the then Ministry of Transport and Nationalisation, responsible for transport companies and nationalisation.
“I was deeply saddened by the death of Josef Taus,” said National Council President walter Rosenkranz. “He was a distinctive person in Austrian politics and business, a man of farsightedness and unwavering commitment to our country.” His contribution to the further development of Austria will not be forgotten. “My deepest condolences to his family and loved ones at this time,” Rosenkranz said.
“Joseph Taus was known as a very shrewd politician, a captain of industry and an industrialist who shaped the local scene,” emphasized Second National Council President Peter Haubner. “With Josef taus, Austria has lost a great personality and wise advisor.
