“Navalny signed his death warrant back in 2013, dawning on the political scene in Russia. Ever since then, attempts have been made to eliminate him from the political scene, not only as a political person, but also physically,” said Milen Keremedchiev, former deputy foreign minister.
Navalny’s death comes just over a month before Russia’s presidential election, where Vladimir Putin will fight for another term. “Minus 30 degrees, scarce food, brutal treatment of guards. It is very possible that he was abused. And all this contributed to his body surrendering and him dying,” said Keremedchiev.
According to our former diplomat, Navalny’s death is a great shock for the opposition in the country.
“The majority of the intelligentsia has either been killed, or is in prisons, or has left Russia and is in exile. Just before the elections in Russia, in just a few weeks, it was seen that the opposition was completely decapitated,” said Keremedchiev. “The signal that Putin is sending with the murder of Navalny is very important. In this way, Putin is burning all bridges for future warming of relations with the European countries and the USA,” Keremedchiev added.
Journalist Ivo Injev also considers Navalny’s death to be expected.

“This resistance that Navalny was trying to exercise turned out to be politically unsuccessful. But she will be more successful in moral terms. Navalny will be a figure that will frighten the regime’s dreams for a long time to come,” believes political scientist Associate Professor Ognyan Minchev.
Experts are unanimous that it will be difficult to find a replacement for Alexei Navalny in the opposition fight against the regime in the Kremlin.
