NBA to Host First-Ever Regular Season Game in Germany, Featuring Wagner Brothers

The National Basketball Association (NBA) is bringing the excitement of a regular season game to Berlin on January 15th, marking a historic moment for the sport in Germany and offering fans a unique opportunity to witness top-tier basketball action live. The game, featuring the Orlando Magic against the Memphis Grizzlies, will be broadcast on Amazon Prime at 8 p.m. local time.

A Homecoming for the Wagner Brothers

For German basketball stars Franz and Moritz Wagner of the Orlando Magic, this game represents a special homecoming. Playing in their hometown adds an extra layer of significance to the first-ever regular NBA season game held in Germany. Fellow Orlando Magic player, Tristan da Silva, is also expected to participate in the game. The event follows the success of a similar NFL initiative last November, demonstrating the growing appeal of American sports in Europe.

NBA Fan Zone: “NBA House” and “Magic Kiez”

Leading up to the game, the NBA is creating immersive fan experiences throughout Berlin. From January 9th to 11th, the “NBA House” at the Uber Eats Music Hall will offer visitors the chance to test their skills on a regulation NBA half-court, pose with the Larry O’Brien Trophy, and participate in an interactive photo campaign with opportunities to win prizes. Former NBA player Mickael Pietrus is scheduled to appear on Sunday, January 10th, at 4 p.m. Free tickets to the “NBA House” are available on the League’s website.

The “Magic Kiez,” the Orlando Magic’s fan headquarters, will be located in Magenta Mitte. From January 10th through 14th, and until 6 p.m. on game day, fans can meet former Magic players like Marcin Gortat, Nick Anderson, and Hedo Turkoglu, along with the team’s mascot, Stuff. Interactive games and competitions will be available, and the team plans to host autograph sessions at various locations throughout the city. Entry to the “Magic Kiez” is free and does not require a ticket.

Meet and Greet with “White Chocolate” and the Wagner Brothers

Basketball enthusiasts will have the opportunity to meet the Wagner brothers at the “Kickz” basketball shop on Kurfürstendamm on January 14th from 4 to 5 p.m. Fans are encouraged to arrive early to secure a spot. The evening prior, on January 13th at 6 p.m., the store will host a panel discussion featuring former Magic and Grizzlies player Jason Williams, known as “White Chocolate” for his dazzling playing style, followed by an autograph session.

Beyond the Game: Clinics and Sustainability Initiatives

The NBA’s commitment extends beyond entertainment, with numerous basketball clinics planned for youth and coaches throughout the week. These include a wheelchair basketball clinic led by Jason Williams, with participants already selected. Players from both the Magic and Grizzlies will also participate in the League’s ongoing sustainability projects, demonstrating a commitment to social responsibility.

Public Viewing Option Available

For fans unable to secure tickets to the game, the NBA will host a public viewing event at the Uber Eats Music Hall, opening at 6:30 p.m. on January 15th. Tickets for the viewing party start at 15 euros and can be purchased on the League’s website.
