French Basketball’s Rising Stars to Showcase Talent at 2026 Young Star Game

The annual showcase for top French basketball prospects, the Young Star Game, is set to return on March 3 and 4, 2026, promising an even greater platform for emerging talent and increased scrutiny from NBA recruiters. This event, often described as the French equivalent of the NBA All-Star Game for younger players, has quickly established itself as a crucial stepping stone for aspiring professionals.

The competition, launched in early 2025 by the National Basketball League (LNB), pits twenty players – born between 2004 and 2009 and competing in the Betclic Elite and Elite 2 leagues – against each other in a 40-minute exhibition match. Organizers are aiming to elevate the event’s profile significantly for the 2026 edition.

Legends Take the Helm as Team Managers

Leading the two competing squads will be two iconic figures from French basketball history: Florent Pietrus and Antoine Rigaudeau. Rigaudeau, victorious in the 2025 edition against Moustapha Sonko, will defend his title. These former French internationals will be tasked with maximizing the performance of their players under the intense observation of NBA scouts.

“It’s a pride and an honor to be able to represent young people,” stated Pietrus, who boasts 230 caps for the French national team. “We have a huge pool of French talent and it is also important to pass on to them what I have experienced on the ground, obviously give them advice and also support them in their projects.”

NBA Interest Fuels Expansion of the Showcase

The event’s growing appeal to NBA franchises is driving key changes for 2026. Last year, a remarkable 27 recruiters representing 20 NBA teams attended the Young Star Game. The impact was immediate: three players from the 2025 game secured contracts in the American league this summer.

Noah Penda, a wingman from Le Mans and the 2025 match’s MVP, was drafted 32nd overall and signed with the Orlando Magic. Mohamed Diawara of Cholet was selected 51st in the draft by the New York Knicks. Notably, Nolan Traoré of Saint-Quentin was chosen by the Brooklyn Nets with the 19th pick, despite being unable to participate in the game due to commitments in the Champions League. This success underscores the Young Star Game’s effectiveness as a launchpad for French players aspiring to reach the NBA.

New Training Access for Scouts

Responding to feedback from American recruiters, organizers are introducing a new element to the 2026 event. “We are going to open training to scouts,” revealed a senior official. “They expressed a desire to evaluate the young players in practice settings, observing their attentiveness, ability to execute plays like screen exits, and shooting agility.” .

Ledger Named Official Event Partner

In a further sign of the event’s rising stature, the Ledger company – a partner of the 2025 edition and also affiliated with the San Antonio Spurs – will now serve as the official naming rights sponsor. The event will now be known as The Ledger Young Star Game.

The Ledger Young Star Game 2 will be held at the Michel Cerdan gymnasium in Levallois-Perret on March 3 and 4, 2026. Tickets are currently on sale.
