JAKARTA – The electric car market is very dynamic. Even though it is predicted to continue to grow, the latest survey shows that people’s interest in buying electric cars is actually decreasing.

This was revealed in Gallup’s latest survey in 2024. Apparently, the results show that more Americans said they would not consider buying an electric vehicle (EV) in 2024 compared to 2023.

Following are some of the results of a Gallup survey regarding electric cars in 2024:

– 48% of respondents said they would not consider buying an EV – up 7% compared to 2023.
– 35% would probably consider it.
– 9% are seriously considering an EV purchase.
– The survey also found that the percentage of Americans owning an EV increases slightly in 2024, with 7% of respondents admitting to owning one. Last year, the figure was only 4%.

Government Regulations and Political Views

President Joe Biden’s administration last month laid out new regulations that could push 56% of new vehicles on the market to be electric by 2032.

While it does not require a switch to electric cars, the regulations set pollution standards for automakers that will be difficult to meet without increasing production of electric or other low-carbon vehicles.

Former President Donald Trump and Republican politicians have opposed efforts to transition to EVs over the next decade. Trump harshly criticized EVs, while Republican lawmakers vowed to reverse Biden’s policies.

Gallup survey shows:

Survey of Democratic respondents:

– 15% are seriously considering buying an EV.
– 46% might consider.
– 9% already have an EV.
– 27% would not consider buying an EV.

Survey of Republican respondents:

– 69% said they would not buy an EV.
– 22% would probably consider.
– Only 2% are seriously considering.

The survey was conducted March 1-20 among 1,016 adults and has a margin of error of 4 percent.
