Neeraj Chopra settles for silver at Paris Olympics
Paris: Tokyo Olympics gold medalist Neeraj Chopra settled for silver in the javelin throw final at the Paris Olympics on Thursday. The reigning world and Asian Games champion finished second with his throw of 89.45 meters, behind Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem who claimed gold with a best throw of 92.97 meters.
Disappointment despite strong throw
After the competition, Chopra expressed disappointment despite his second-best career throw. “It was a good throw but I am not that happy with my performance today. My technique and runway were not that good. I made only one throw, the rest I fouled,” he said.
Injury woes continue
Chopra also revealed that regular injuries hampered his preparations for the Paris Olympics. He has been plagued by problems with his adductor muscle in recent years, forcing him to miss several tournaments. “The last two or three years have not been so good for me. I always get injured. I worked really hard, but I have to work on my injury and technique,” he said.
Congratulatory message
Despite the silver medal, Chopra ended his speech with a congratulatory message to his opponent and good friend, Nadeem. “Today’s competition was really great. Arshad Nadeem threw well. Congratulations to him and his country,” he said.
