Neighbors of the Cuitláhuac Housing Unitfrom the Iztapalapa mayor’s office, reported the impact of contaminated water in their homes, this after smelling fuel in some buildings in the liquid that was distributed to them in their cistern and water tanks through the pipe service.
Last Tuesday, April 30, in their WhatsApp messages, neighbors reported a smell of diesel in the water, which alerted them and caused concern.
On a tour taken by 24 HOURS In buildings K3, K4 and K5, located in the housing unit that is located near the Constitution of 1917 Modal Transfer Center, some residents corroborated the situation.
“We don’t know if it was the cistern, the hose or the pipe, just now the contaminated cistern woke up (…), some neighbors when using it in their homes is when they realized that it was smelling (of diesel) and when they reported it we checked and We saw that the water was slightly dirty,” explained a resident of one of the affected buildings.
He added that when checking the tank they observed “oil creams” on the surface of the water; Although the condominium owners do not know the origin of the damage, they rule out that trate of a problem coming of the area’s water supply network, this is because only three buildings are compromised and the fact occurred after filling the cistern with pipe water.
Gregorio N. assured that the area has the water service through pipes for approximately six or seven years for those who request it, who come to the housing units on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
The residents did not make any accusations against the alcaldía, But they did ask for a solution to the problem and called on each other not to consume or use the water, as well as to avoid disposing of it down the drain.
It should be noted that during the tour of the area, the condominium owners denied access to the cistern area to graphically record the current state of the situation, since they would wait for the intervention of the demarcation authorities.
However, they asked not to empty the water into the unit’s drains until they know what the liquid contains to avoid any type of damage, either due to a possible burst or deterioration in the sewer system.
