“Neither Gaza nor Lebanon, I sacrifice my life for Iran”: protests in Tehran continue

by time news

Iran continues to storm: The mass demonstrations throughout the Islamic Republic continued tonight (between Friday and Saturday), as part of the protest of the killing of Mehsa Amini, a 22-year-old young woman who was arrested by the “morality police” because she wore a hijab in a “sloppy manner”. She was allegedly beaten to death during her arrest.

In the meantime, the security mechanisms of the Iranian regime continued the violent suppression of the protests. The Iranian military warned the protesters of “continued unrest” and stated that it “will act violently against the plots of the enemy forces. These desperate actions are part of an evil strategy of the enemy to weaken the Islamic regime.”

As part of the repression measures, the Iranian government blocked the internet and mobile services and also blocked WhatsApp and Instagram. Following this, the American Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken, said that his country would try to ease the internet restrictions imposed on the citizens in Iran, and stated that “we are going to make sure that the Iranian people will not remain isolated and in the dark”. Blinken emphasized that “the partial easing of internet restrictions is a concrete step to provide significant support to Iranians in their demand to respect their basic rights. The Iranian government fears its people.”

At the same time, the nationwide protests in Iran spread to many cities in the country such as Mashhad, Sandaj, Tabriz and Qazvin. Among the names of the protesters, you can hear derogatory chants against the supreme leader of Iran, Ali Khamenei, and against the political leader of the Islamic revolution in 1979, Ruhollah Khomeini. Also, among the prominent slogans you can hear “Neither Gaza nor Lebanon, I sacrifice my life for Iran, “I will kill the one who killed my sister”, we don’t want a sheikh and not in front of her, curse the Ayatollah”.
