She was considered the last chance for a blue medal and she responded. Kayaker Nelia Barbosa won silver at the Paralympic Games this Sunday, September 8, on the final day of competition, during the KL3 200m event. At 26, the Lisbon native gives her 75th and final medal to the Blues, who manage to enter the Top 8 they hoped for on home soil.
Already a silver medalist in Tokyo, Nelia Barbosa crossed the finish line in 47 sec 91, beaten only by Britain’s Laura Sugar, reigning champion (46.66). In third place, synonymous with bronze, the German Felicia Laberer. Nelia Barbosa competes in the KL3 category, intended for paddlers with problems functioning in a leg, a foot or who do not have one of these limbs.
The other Frenchman who entered the Vaires-sur-Marne basin, Abel Aber, placed sixth in his final in the va’a, Polynesian canoe race.
France ends the Paralympic Games with 75 medals, a much higher total than at the last Paralympic Games in Tokyo. The Blues had therefore collected 54 charms. The French team finished the competition in 8th place in the medal table, within the set target, between Ukraine and Australia. Small inconvenience: the French delegation aimed for 20 gold medals and only obtained 19. But let’s not quibble…
Update : at 2.45pm with the final result of the medal table.
