The question of making an addition to the Law of the Republic of Armenia “On the Central Bank of the Republic of Armenia” was discussed today at the extraordinary session of the National Assembly.

Nerses Yeritsyan, the informant of the Chairman of the Central Bank of Armenia, while presenting the question, said that it refers to the creation of a centralized register of accounts in the Central Bank. During the first to second reading, there were no proposals by the deputies, but there are discussions and debates among the public regarding the issue, so he presented some clarifications.

“This legislative initiative does not in any way change or worsen the norms of bank secrecy. Bank secrecy norms will remain in the range in which they exist today.

Yeritsyan said that this law solves two problems.

“Reduces operational costs of reporting bodies, including banks, financial organizations. The centralized registry is created in the future in terms of offering innovative solutions to citizens, that is, financial institutions can provide higher quality services in an international environment.”

As the Deputy President of the Central Bank assured, the collection of information regarding the movement and balance of the account is not planned.

“All that is planned is the account number and personal data. In any case, the movement of the account will not be collected through the centralized registry,” Yeritsyan said.
