NEW YORK — The New York Yankees will have to wait until at least August to see the return of left-hander Nestor Cortes. The 28-year-old pitcher has been transferred to the 60-day injured list due to rotator cuff inflammation, making him eligible to be activated on August 4.

Cortes, a 2022 All-Star, last pitched on May 30 and has recorded a 5-2 record with a 5.16 ERA in 11 starts. In an effort to make a comeback, Cortes is expected to face hitters on Sunday and participate in throwing sessions at the Yankees’ training complex in Tampa, Florida, on July 13.

While the Yankees await Cortes’ return, they welcomed left-hander Carlos Rodon to their roster. Rodon, who signed a lucrative $162 million, six-year contract, had been sidelined since spring training due to a strained left forearm and a back injury. He made his debut for the Yankees during Friday’s series opener against the Cubs.

In addition to these roster changes, the Yankees have placed infielder/outfielder Jake Bauers on the 10-day injured list due to a bruised left rotator cuff. The move is retroactive to Thursday. To fill the void, infielder-outfielder Franchy Cordero has been recalled from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

These roster adjustments will undoubtedly have an impact on the Yankees’ performance as they navigate through a challenging part of the season. Fans will eagerly await the return of Nestor Cortes while keeping an eye on Carlos Rodon’s contributions to the team.
