Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that the force and frequency of attacks on Hamas targets will be increased. According to him, the decision was made after two Israeli women were killed in a missile strike from the Gaza Strip. In the course of retaliatory strikes on Gaza, according to the Ministry of Health, at least 26 people were killed.
“Based on the assessment of the situation, it was decided that both the strength and frequency of attacks would be increased,” Mr. Netanyahu said in an address published in his Twitter (translated by Reuters).
Hamas launched rocket attacks on Jerusalem on the evening of May 10, after escalating clashes between Palestinians and Israeli police in East Jerusalem. The riots in the Old City were caused by the ban of the Israeli police from gathering on the steps at the Damascus Gate, as well as the court’s decision to evict several Arab families from the Sheikh Jarrah quarter in Jerusalem.
