During a special video message, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced the start of an operation in the Rafah area, emphasizing that this decision was made with the approval of the military cabinet. During the operation, Israeli troops took control of a checkpoint in the area, raising Israeli flags there and removing Hamas flags.

“Yesterday evening, with the approval of the military cabinet, I ordered the start of the operation in Rafah. A few hours later, our troops raised Israeli flags at the Rafah checkpoint and removed Hamas flags from there,” Netanyahu said.

Netanyahu stressed that military pressure on Hamas is necessary to achieve these goals, and rejected the proposal from Hamas as not meeting Israel’s basic demands.

In his address, Netanyahu also emphasized Israel’s determination to prevent the restoration of Hamas’s power and military capabilities in the Gaza Strip.

Regarding the negotiations, Netanyahu said he had instructed the working group traveling to Cairo to continue to stand firm on the conditions necessary to free the hostages and ensure Israel’s security.

Much attention was paid to the capture of the Rafah checkpoint as an important step towards destroying Hamas’ military capabilities. Netanyahu expressed confidence that this event would weaken the capabilities of the terrorist organization and make its activities less effective.
