Netanyahu, this does not interest many in Israel

I’m pretty sure that the adrenaline in the Likud camp is not low, yet today, after the clouds of confetti descend to the ground, it’s time to start talking about values. It is true, on the right and on the left there are many other broad issues that occupy the first agenda after the fifth elections, and yet, perhaps it should be said from now on – we must not forget those overseas either.

True, there are many other things that need to be restored and changed in the country, but nevertheless, it is worth talking about an issue that will put Israel in the pages of history – for better or for worse.

Netanyahu’s victory comes alongside a large wave in Europe and the entire world of right-wing people, no matter what they call extreme, who are seizing the helm of power. Many of them, including the Hungarian ruler Viktor Orban, are considered very close to Vladimir Putin.

But Netanyahu, you can behave differently. A right-wing government does not require alignment with right-wing leaders in many countries in the world. Take as an example Giorgia Maloney who recently became the prime minister of Italy. A right-wing woman, according to many with fascist roots. Maloney, unlike right-wing people in most European countries – including Italy, strongly opposes the Russian invasion.

Since Putin brutally invaded the territory of a country that he did not have, it is imperialistic ambitions and an attempt to control a sovereign country, the chairman of the Likud has hardly spoken out on the issue.

True, the situation is sensitive and Russia sits right on the border of Syria, but the world of the last few weeks is not the same world of the days of the invasion. Even in Syria, Putin significantly weakened his power in order to try to continue and advance the conquest campaign in Ukraine.

So yes, it is necessary to do this with the necessary caution, certainly in the shadow of the boomerang effect that may come upon us due to the situation with the Palestinians, but this does not contradict the fact that the leader of the Jewish state should come with a clear voice – this invasion is illegal, immoral and even cruel.

Russian insolence knows no bounds. When the outgoing Prime Minister Yair Lapid attacked Russia, Moscow was furious with Israel, but when the words came from stronger countries or with interests like Turkey, the Russians showed leniency.

Part of the character of the ruler in Moscow is unpredictable conduct, which demands from countries standards that it itself does not meet. For example, Putin expects support from Israel, while he himself repeatedly attacks Israel and cooperates with the worst of our enemies.

And as for the worst of our enemies, we all remember and know the well-known line against Iran – the Russian-Iranian connection is getting tighter, and as long as Israel does not intend to supply weapons to the Russians, which would of course be diplomatic suicide – the time has come to set a clear voice.

Things might upset the Russians a little, but these days they are deep in the mire of war. So once the formation of the government is finished, don’t forget the moral voice of the Jewish state against a brutal invasion that will be remembered in the coming decades.
