Netanyahu urged by Likud ministers to halt the legislative process

by time news

After Prime Minister Netanyahu dismissed Defense Minister Galant and sparked protests across the country, ministers Miki Zohar, Amichai Shikli, and Nir Barkat publicly called on Netanyahu to halt the legislation. Likud officials told the Srogim that Levin is currently the only one in the party who insists on continuing the legislation and that he is threatening to resign again and raised his voice in his conversation with Netanyahu.

Minister of Culture and Sports, Miki Zohar, said that “we paid a heavy price for the failure of information. The reform of the judicial system is necessary and vital, but when the house is on fire, you don’t ask who is right, but pour water and save its occupants.” Economy Minister Nir Barkat stated that “the State of Israel is above all. A united Israel is above all. I will support the Prime Minister in the decision to stop and recalculate the route. The reform is necessary, and we will do it – but not at the cost of a fratricidal war.” Diaspora and Social Equality Minister Amichai Shikli wrote that “we made a mistake in navigation…I propose to respond to Benny Gantz’s call…to draw a renewed road map for the continuation of the legislation.”

The post concludes with Minister Shikli adding that “on the day of the command, we will stand as one man…to show our friends who voted for other parties that first of all, we are brothers.”

Following the dismissal of Defense Minister Galant by Prime Minister Netanyahu and the protests that broke out throughout the country. Ministers Miki Zohar, Amichai Shikli and Nir Barkat published messages calling on Netanyahu to stop the legislation. Likud officials told the Srogim that Levin is the only one in Likud who is now insisting on the continuation of the legislation and claim that he is threatening to resign again and raised his voice in his conversation with Netanyahu.

Minister of Culture and Sports Miki Zohar said: “We paid a heavy price for the failure of information. The reform of the judicial system is necessary and vital, but when the house is on fire, you don’t ask who is right, but pour water and save its occupants. If the prime minister decides to stop the legislation in order to prevent the rift created in the nation, we must support his position.’

Economy Minister Nir Barkat: “The State of Israel is above all. A united Israel is above all. I will support the Prime Minister in the decision to stop and recalculate the route. The reform is necessary and we will do it – but not at the cost of a fratricidal war.’

Diaspora and Social Equality Minister Amichai Shikli wrote “We have to admit, honestly – we made a mistake in navigation! This happens even to the most experienced and best navigators. We were wrong, not in identifying the burning need for reform, it is more essential than ever, but in the way it is carried out. I propose to respond to Benny Gantz’s call, which seems to come from a sincere and pure intention, to draw a renewed road map for the continuation of the legislation, to present it to the public and to determine in advance rules of the game that will clearly express the decision of the people who went to the elections for the fifth time.’

“Where it is possible to achieve a wider consensus, we will do so, and where not – we will decide. If we believe in the ability to lead the country, we must play a little calmer music and slow down. It will be made clear here unequivocally: I completely accept the decision of the Likud faction of which I am a part. I trust the Prime Minister’s judgment and think that the softened outline we presented is fair and balanced, but the event that unfolded here has less to do with the content of the reform and more to the public atmosphere that was created.”

Netanyahu fired Defense Minister Yoav Galant

“This is a time of security emergency, our enemies from the north and south are rubbing their hands with pleasure at the calls of refusal and maybe they will try to challenge us. I tell them – don’t dare, don’t try us, on the day of the command we will stand as one man from the right and the left, religious and secular from the kibbutz and the city. So as in the Wiz app, even though the final destination does not change, I recommend recalculating the route, yes – even though we are completely right. Simply to show our friends who voted for other parties that first of all we are brothers.’

“We owe our children a Seder night where we sit together with our family happily, days of remembrance where we can be silent together over the graves of our friends and 75th celebrations that will be remembered as celebrations of reconciliation and brotherhood” concluded Minister Shikli.
