The highly anticipated live-action remake of Avatar: The Last Airbender is set to premiere on Netflix on February 22, 2024. The streaming service made the announcement and released the show’s first teaser trailer during its Geeked Week presentation.

Netflix initially revealed plans for the live-action adaptation of the popular animated series in 2018. However, original creators Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko left the production two years later, citing misalignment with the “spirit and integrity of Avatar.” They have since announced new animated projects within the Avatar universe.

Taking over the Netflix show is a new creative team led by Albert Kim, known for his work on Sleepy Hollow. Joining him as directors are Michael Goi (Riverdale), Jabbar Raisani (Lost in Space), and Roseanne Liang (Shadow in the Cloud). The main cast includes Gordon Cormier as Aang, Kiawentiio as Katara, Ian Ousley as Sokka, and Dallas Liu as Zuko, along with well-known actors such as Daniel Dae Kim, Amber Midthunder, Utkarsh Ambudkar, Danny Pudi, and George Takei.

Fans have already been given a glimpse of the show, including the main cast and the Fire Nation characters in costume. With the official release date now set, anticipation continues to build for the live-action Avatar. Stay tuned for more updates as the premiere date approaches.
