The favorite line of every coach in a team sport is that he never allows his team to be messed with.
However, our volleyball federation today adopted an innovation, according to which the expanded compositions of the women’s and men’s state team will be agreed and commented on with the management board.
The reason – a media publication attacking new men’s coach Gianlorenzo Blengini’s list and the way it was drawn up.
Therefore, an extraordinary item was included in the agenda of today’s meeting, related to the discussion and opportunity for questions from the members of the Board regarding the process and methodology for selecting an extended composition for the men’s national team for the summer of 2024.
It was stated at the meeting that the offers for competitors come from the coach and the coaching staff. After discussions with the members of the Board, the following decision was reached:
By November 15, the selectors (men/women) must provide the Board with a list of project nationals;
By March 15, the selectors (men/women) must propose to the Board a final list of up to 30 competitors (for the respective year).
“We are a federation that cares about transparency. To show that all decisions are made democratically and so that there are no interpretations of who makes the list of invited competitors, the most important decision from today was to draw up this methodology.
The proposal of the extended composition will be coordinated and commented on with the Board. We will invite the coaches themselves to argue”, commented the president of the federation Lubomir Ganev after the meeting.
Thus, next year the Italian Blengini will have to justify his choice of competitors. The same goes for compatriot Lorenzo Micelli if he remains in charge of the women.
